Bay Blue Wins Good Food Award

San Francisco, CA (Jan. 19, 2013) – Bay Blue, the newest cheese from Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company of Marin County, CA was named a Good Food Award Winner in the Cheese Category at last night’s Award Ceremony. Held at the historic San Francisco Ferry Building and hosted by Alice Waters, 11 cheeses were given the top award of Winner. It was announced at the ceremony that Bay Blue garnered the Judges’ top score, which earned the company the honor of giving the acceptance speech on behalf of all cheese makers in the category.

This year’s Good Food Awards, organized by Seedling Projects, received a record number of 176 entries from Cheese Makers throughout the US. The Good Food Awards, now in its third year, recognize that truly good food—the kind that brings people together and builds strong, healthy communities—contains all of these ingredients. The Awards take a comprehensive view, honoring people who make food that is delicious, respectful of the environment, and connected to communities and cultural traditions.

Bay Blue, with its gorgeous natural-rind and fudgey texture, has a golden-yellow interior and a unique, salted-caramel finish. “We are thrilled to introduce Bay Blue to our blue cheese-loving customers. It complements our other cheeses with its rustic style and rich-yet-mellow flavor,” said Bob Giacomini as he received the award. Bob also thanked the industry-centric audience last night, “for their ongoing support of family farm-based businesses which allow our traditional methods and sustainable practices to be passed on to future generations”.

Giacomini, together with his wife and four daughters, founded Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company on their family dairy in 2000. Ultra-creamy, full flavored Original Blue™ Cheese is the flagship product of the company and Toma, a buttery-flavored table cheese, was released to critical acclaim in 2010.
