POINT REYES 2X WINNER AT 2013 AMERICAN CHEESE SOCIETY

Multiple Wins for Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company at 2013 American Cheese Society Annual Judging & Competition in Madison, WI

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Point Reyes, CA (August 5, 2013) – Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company of Marin County took home two ribbons at the American Cheese Society’s Annual Judging & Competition in Madison, Wisconsin on Friday, August 2nd. Point Reyes Mozzarella earned a 1st Place Ribbon in the Fresh Mozzarella Category and the company’s Bay Blue received a 3rd Place Ribbon in the Rinded-Blue Cheese Category.

The American Cheese Society celebrated its 30th anniversary this year in Madison where the 2013 Judging & Competition saw a record number of entries: 1,794 cheeses and cultured milk products from 257 different companies in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

“We are over-joyed with these wins. They’re amazing tributes to the hard work of our wonderful creamery staff, led by Head Cheese Maker, Kuba Hemmerling” said Bob Giacomini, owner of Point Reyes Farmstead. “We feel our Fresh Mozzarella is special because it truly tastes like a glass of our outstanding milk …and now we know our industry thinks it is the best in all of North America. And we’re thrilled for the recognition of our recently introduced rustic-style, Bay Blue – the honor will certainly help it gain momentum across the country.”

Giacomini, together with his wife and four daughters, founded Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company on their family dairy in 2000. Original Blue™ is the company’s flagship cheese. The ACS honors add to an award filled Summer: In July the company’s, buttery-flavored table cheese, Toma, won the coveted Gold sofie Award for Best Cheese or Dairy Product from the Specialty Food Association and Bay Blue took the event’s marquis award for Best New Product. The Point Reyes Farmstead product line is available nationally at independent cheese shops and specialty chains as well as at www.pointreyescheese.com.

The American Cheese Society encourages the understanding, appreciation and promotion of farmstead and natural specialty cheeses produced in the Americas and Canada. Visit The American Cheese Society website for a complete listing of competition winners.
