First Place Award for OB 2019 US Championship Cheese Contest

Point Reyes Original Blue Cheese™ awarded 1st Place at US Championship Cheese Contest in Green Bay, WI

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Green Bay, WI (March 19, 2019) – The first cheese made by Point Reyes Farmstead, the iconic Original Blue, was awarded 1st Place in the Blue Cheese Category at Cheese Champion, last night’s culminating event for this year’s US Championship Cheese Contest. The contest occurred in early March with the judging of a record-breaking 2555 entries in cheese, butter and yogurt classes from 72 different producers. Original Blue, the company’s raw milk, classic-style blue known for its ultra-creamy texture and full-flavored, peppery finish, was one of 19 entries for Blue Veined Cheese and scored an impressive 97.90. Point Reyes is thrilled to also announce that its Bay Blue won 5th Place in Blue Veined Cheese with an Exterior Rind, Toma placed 6th Place in Open Class, Semi Soft Cheese and the California producer’s traditional Gouda won 12th Place in the Aged Gouda category.
